First Trip to Lahore after return from Amreeka

So I finally went to Lahore after being in Pindi for 6 weeks. One of my friends got married in 2k7 and moved there and she gave a really nice description of it. Lahoris drive like it's the last time they are driving, eat like it's the last time they are eating and dress up like it's the last time they are dressing up. So true! I refused to drive there one due to lack of basic lahoris geography and two it was like driving bumper cars without getting hit and I wasn't willing to try it just yet.

Took the premium class Daewoo from here. turns out it's good looks, more space, more fare and yet no better comfort. Spent an extra Rs 180 just for that. Day 2 went to the market..... all they had was sparkly cloth ....... my two cousins turned up with their husbands and children. One's kid were afraid of me for God knows what reason. they wouldn't come out of the room because I was sitting right outside it. Another's kid was so adorable, she just turned two. Everyone kept telling her to call me khala.....at the end of they way they asked who is she and she replied 'auntiieee' ..... funny even kids can tell when people are amreeka returned :P

Anyways multiple trips to Saleem Fabrics, Liberty yielded some good kapra shopping. Other than that had food at Salt N Pepper, Ice cream at Heeras and Coffee at Espresso which was an amusing opinion on it's own! Deserves another post someday :)

Last I flew back. As long as i can remember I haven't traveled domestically by air. I've been flying every three months in US but strangely not in Pakistan. Really liked the airport not to forget to mention the convenience. Spent an hour on the free Wateen net at the lounge. My parents turned up to welcome me and that too on time! It was a good flight. My Mamu ruined my habit now I think I'll want to fly back each time.

Of Married Women and Mother-in-Laws

I actually wanted to make the title sound as classy as the old movie title "of bed knobs and broom sticks" , but now that it's there doesn't sound so classy... anyways

One of my school friends F was here from another city. I thought ah we need to have a mini get together. Anyways self invited myself to F's place and called up S, M and SN. Only S could come. We started about good old times and then the conversation suddenly turned to Mother-in-Laws. Turns out nearly everyone was having problem with them. One after another story was enough to make you think either there should be no mother-in-law (god forbid) or you should be far far away from her reach. What is the world coming to? Since when did mother-in-laws become so integral part of marriages? These educated happily married women had perhaps one issue in their life....mother-in-law ..... is it the same world over is this a very desi concept?

Other than that my Lecture 2 was progress from Lecture 1. 3 more people turned up. the projector took 10 mins to start running as compared to previous time of 1 hour. I haven't heard so much escuse making in the last few years as I did in these last two classes. I hope the students grow up and they grow up soon!

Planning a trip to Lahore. Lets see how I fare in that one.

Ramadhan and Food Poisoning

Finally I write another blog. Been feeling very lazy. First of all Ramadhan seemed slightly different. They don't have annoying ads on TV anymore...... or maybe my father doesn't tune into that channel anymore since we upgraded and have cable. Then it's the first Proper Ramadhan I'm having after two years. The last two I would end up opening in class where people just couldn't understand why I would fast or why I was so ecstatic when breaking it :)

Then I had my third food poisoning ever since I came ( 1 month and 9 days to be precise) Damn Whole Foods. Made me so used to pure organic food that now I can't eat desi food anymore!

I also took up part time work......teaching a course to be precise. Had my first class, 7 out of 30 people turned up. Interestingly 30 people registered because they had heard from students last year that it was an easy course but ah surprise surprise the instructor has changed. 7 turned up for the first day because it was just the first day.... now that was a lousy excuse. Lets see how things progress.

Why the Blog??

Been thinking and thinking about starting a blog. There was so much I was upto in the last two years that I had felt I should have documented it. In a way I have by holding onto the ticket stubs and brochures. Finally after some nudging by a few friends I am starting a blog. Wonder why it took so long to sink in!

Anyways I'll try to take out my souvenirs bit by bit and try to remember what I was going through at that time. Sometimes those memories are vivid. Lets hope they remain that way.

So here goes Post 1 of blog The Adventures of Traveling M
